CABINETS ARE EXPENSIVE AREN'T THEY?

CABINETS ARE EXPENSIVE AREN'T THEY?

I found an excellent article this morning regarding the cost of cabinetry. The article attempts to explain why cabinets are “expensive”, and I think it does a pretty good job. I’ve attached a link at the end, so you can check it out yourselves.

I have a few things to add also. First is that not all cabinet lines will allow you to customize their cabinets. The door styles and finishes are “WYSIWYG” (what you see is what you get). These are most often found in home centers, but we too have a line like this. It is a nice cabinet with attractive doors and finishes and can be used to achieve a beautiful kitchen. However, what if you fall in love with one door style, and like the finish of another? This particular cabinet line will no longer meet your needs.

The vast majority of our clients choose one of our other cabinet lines that run the gamut of design possibilities. Custom sizes, custom finishes, custom door styles, and everything in between. Doors can have applied moldings; drawer fronts can feature raised panels like the doors; finished cabinet ends can be smooth or have integrated panels like wainscot. It may surprise you how affordable a project with custom sized cabinets or a custom finish can be.

There are so many things that factor into a project’s price, and I haven’t even mentioned the actual design itself. My main point here is that the actual cabinetry represents only a portion of the overall project cost.
